Beatrix Ruf studierte Psychologie, Ethnologie, Kunst und Kulturwissenschaften in Zürich und war als Choreografin und Kritikerin tätig. Seit 1994 arbeitet sie als freie Kuratorin. 2001 wurde sie zur künstlerischen Leiterin der Kunsthalle Zürich ernannt. In der Kunsthalle Zürich ermöglichte Beatrix Ruf damals jungen Künstlern wie Wilhelm Sasnal, Keren Cytter, Trisha Donnelly, Wade Guyton and Seth Price eine erste Museumspräsenz. Als Kuratorin war Beatrix Ruf auch bei zahlreichen internationalen Kunstveranstaltungen beteiligt: 2006 kuratierte sie die dritte Tate Triennale in London, 2008 arbeitete sie als Co-Kuratorin bei der Yokohama Triennale. Seit 2014 ist Beatrix Ruf künstlerische Leiterin des Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam und realisierte seitdem Ausstellungen mit Tino Sehgal, Ed Atkins, Liam Gillick und Isa Genzken.
Beatrix Ruf ha studiato Psicologia, Etnologia, Arte e Scienze culturali a Zurigo e ha lavorato come coreografa e critica. Dal 1994 lavora come curatrice indipendente. Nel 2001 è stata nominata direttrice artistica della Kunsthalle Zürich. Presso la Kunsthalle Zürich Beatrix Ruf ha consentito ad allora giovani artisti come Wilhelm Sasnal, Keren Cytter, Trisha Donnelly, Wade Guyton and Seth Price di avere una prima presentazione museale. Come curatrice ha anche partecipato a numerose iniziative artistiche in ambito internazionale: nel 2006 ha curato la 3. Tate Triennale di Londra, nel 2008 ha lavorato come co-curatrice alla Yokohama Triennale. Dal 2014 Beatrix Ruf è direttrice artistica del Stedelijk Museum di Amsterdam dove ha realizzato mostre con Tino Sehgal, Ed Atkins, Liam Gillick e Isa Genzken.
